Rising, Posting and Knuckle Exercises for Armwrestling

By Coach Ray · 18 October 2026

Rising (lifting your wrist toward the thumb side) and posting (holding your wrist and knuckles high against pressure) are what let a toproller get on top of an opponent's hand and stay there.

Why it matters

If your wrist drops, your opponent gets on top and your leverage is gone. A strong riser and posted knuckles keep your hand high and make every other part of the toproll easier.

Key exercises

  • Rising with a loaded stick or handle
  • Posting holds against a cable or band
  • Knuckle and finger work with small handles
